As a Web Designer you know how critical it is to start any project with a deposit. The first payment shows client commitment and allows you to start on the project immediately - which no doubt your client wants you to do!. Starting without a deposit leaves you exposed. Waiting for a BACS payment or to take credit card details over the phone gives your client time to think. The more they think, the more they shop around. Clients are most responsive when they've just agreed on the price - that's when you send them the payment form. Delay it longer and you're increasing the risk of the job getting delayed.
Once your client gets used to paying using the payment link. you can end milestone payments as soon as the time arrives. Clients at this point will rarely delay as they know you've sent them the payment link so if they don't pay, the job will be put on hold.
